* Invest in training and education of #mechanics (both for conventional and EV cars) and #electricians where private sector is lacking

And only *after* they have got power start advocating such things as full bans of #petrol / #diesel cars and #scrappage schemes - reality is many suburban motorists are going #electric anyway without having to push too hard, and 20 year old cars are often unrepairable due to lack of spare parts..

In Germany, due to new government subsidies for electric and hybrid vehicles, you can now buy a new Dacia Spring for €5900 (list price is €16900, minus state subsidy €6000 minus Dacia special EV discount €5000 = €5900) or a new Citroën ë-C3 for less than €9000. (The subsides are income dependent and capped at €80k yearly household income, earn more than that, no free money)

Once again had to download a stupid app and spend ten minutes by the side of the road faffing with my phone to charge the car. This is such a huge barrier to entry for so many people, I do not know why you cannot just plug your car in and swipe a bank card, it is ridiculous. No wonder people stick to petrol cars, at petrol stations you can just swipe your card and fill up. It's inexcusable that it isn't the same experience for electric, there's no good reason for it. #ev #rant

This report (which crops up every few months) is often used to spin #EV adoption, but the reality is its the #driving schools that are buying EVs for their fleets - most of the young #learner #drivers who choose #automatic #cars are picking #petrol / #diesel vehicles when they pass their test , the main reason folk are increasingly choosing automatic 'boxes in #UK is the stress of learning to drive and sheer weight of traffic (I've driven in #Swindon and it has an abundance of #roundabouts, where driving manual can be a chore).

I may need to buy a new (to me) car. I'd love to not, but public transport and my health are crap, so it's car or housebound. I'm looking at electric as a way to at least reduce the ongoing costs and environmental impacts. But it absolutely must be a self-charging hybrid, and that's where it gets tricky - adverts don't specify and I have no idea how to tell.

I would appreciate, please, either:

1. A sure-fire way to know whether a particular car I'm looking at is self-charging.

Or:

2. Recommendations for makes and models that are cheap, with big boots, and are absolutely definitely self-charging.

I know I might be in moon-on-a-stick territory, and if so I'll end up with another petrol car this time and hope for better results next time. At least I can reassure myself that I've looked into it.

Tesla sales in Europe are continuing to decline rapidly, and it appears the pain is just beginning.

The numbers for July are coming in from Europe and Tesla registrations are down 41.6% despite EV sales surging across the old continent.

In fact, the decline appears to be accelerating in most European markets.
