Cold winter weather means EV range plummets with battery and car heaters.

Arrived here with just 5 miles left, but glad I have that little rex engine as backup (40 miles)

Once again had to download a stupid app and spend ten minutes by the side of the road faffing with my phone to charge the car. This is such a huge barrier to entry for so many people, I do not know why you cannot just plug your car in and swipe a bank card, it is ridiculous. No wonder people stick to petrol cars, at petrol stations you can just swipe your card and fill up. It's inexcusable that it isn't the same experience for electric, there's no good reason for it.

I hope the investigation into this "make pumps 5" in involving an is published (and the make and model of vehicle and charger publicised) - it seems to also include the as had to put 73 buildings off supply to make the scene safe..

This report (which crops up every few months) is often used to spin adoption, but the reality is its the schools that are buying EVs for their fleets - most of the young who choose are picking / vehicles when they pass their test , the main reason folk are increasingly choosing automatic 'boxes in is the stress of learning to drive and sheer weight of traffic (I've driven in and it has an abundance of , where driving manual can be a chore).

There *isn't* at present much of "green dividend" as is often claimed (although it must reduce emissions from driving school cars, and used Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf are now reaching "first car" price points)

                #EV #ElectricVehicle #Hybrid advice wanted, please.

                *#UK answers only, thank you*

I may need to buy a new (to me) car. I'd love to not, but public transport and my health are crap, so it's car or housebound. I'm looking at electric as a way to at least reduce the ongoing costs and environmental impacts. But it absolutely must be a self-charging hybrid, and that's where it gets tricky - adverts don't specify and I have no idea how to tell.

                I would appreciate, please, either:

                1. A sure-fire way to know whether a particular car I'm looking at is self-charging.

                Or:

                2. Recommendations for makes and models that are cheap, with big boots, and are absolutely definitely self-charging.

I know I might be in moon-on-a-stick territory, and if so I'll end up with another petrol car this time and hope for better results next time. At least I can reassure myself that I've looked into it.

The best app I've found is , run by . It provides an optional card that works with lots of chargers in the UK and abroad. But it doesn't seem complete: there are chargers that I believe exist, which Electroverse doesn't know about.

If you know of a better app, I'd be glad to hear about it!

🆕 blog! “Petrol Stations 🆚 Car Charging Locations”

Journalists love context-free numbers - things that sound large and scary, but without any helpful information to allow you to judge their significance.

Here's a good example from a BBC article about Electric Vehicle subsidies:

There are around 1.3 million electric cars on Britain's roads but currently only around…

This is why I will still drive a car for the next few years (its not even the fault of the Council as such, but their private sector contractor they used can't maintain the chargers in a timely manner, and the other companies which do keep them working are charging way more for the )

I've seen the same issues reported the other side of the Stour in - whereas you can still get petrol and (often 24/7) from many places..
