Every time I go to a supermarket at this time of year I wonder about the environmental impact of producing all of these pumpkins primarily for them to be thrown away. All the energy, water, waste collection, it just doesn't make sense.

@nick@shore.me.uk I wonder how much good agricultural land is being used for the production of pumpkins which could be used for growing food? After all this is the argument I see time and time again about solar farms which at least produce something useful and can actually increase food production, eg sheep grazing.
